The Lippi Selk’Bag

No, it’s not for halloween. This funky costume is actually made for your next camping trip. Living in Southern California and having the Lippi for over a year, I feel this man-shaped sleeping bag is best suited for our moderate climate during our winter months. Unlike conventional sleeping bags, the Lippi gives you the freedom to move your arms & legs as if you’re wearing an oversized windbreaker.

The Lippi Selk Bag is truly the campers new best friend. This sleepwear system takes the warmth and necessity of a sleeping bag, adds some modern day innovation, and suddenly camping just became a whole lot more comfortable. With separate compartments for legs, arms, and even a hood for the head, the Lippi offers full mobility.

Zippers for the hands allow the option being open to allow use of the hands, or being zipped up to be fully enclosed. In this sleeping bag the wearer can feel free to stretch out while still being completely enveloped in the warmth of their bag. The lippi was thought out well with cooling vents that can be zipped up along other parts of your body depending on your thermal needs. Reinforced footpads on the bottom allow one to walk around in the Lippi with confidence.

There are three different versions of the Lippi Selk Bag and our team reviewed the smallest most light-weight of the three. We took this out camping for about 20 different days and have mixed feelings about it. Standing at 5′11.5″ (that means eleven & a half inch) – I felt I was probably two inches too tall for it. I ordered a small/medium thinking this would suit me because I’m a fairly small guy at just under six foot & weighing 160lbs. Our other reviewers were all female standing no taller than 5′4 and the small/medium seemed too large for them, but they claimed to be happy swimming in their suit.

After a few months of testing in the wilderness, we couldn’t help but take the lippi into town. How often do you see a man in a greens suit, anyway? And being ballroom dancers, you guesssed it – we performed a routine in the lippi! Ok.. so we aren’t that original. If you do a Youtube search, you’ll quickly find that this seems to be the biggest craze with the lippi even though it was engineered for convenience in the woods.

Being in Southern California I personally don’t make use of sleeping bags all that often, though I am originally from the east coast. During the early Spring & Late fall I can definitely see where this would be nice to sit out at a campfire literally wearing your sleeping bag and not have to worry about huddling extremely close to the fire. Though, in the true winter months of the northern hemisphere I don’t think it provided enough warmth. The wonderful people at Active Sports Ltd thought of this and have three different models. We opted for the lightweight of the group and like I mentioned this is great for early spring or late fall in California and possibly some winter nights, though you’ll want the Selk Bag 2 or 3 for the true winter nights.

Overall, we found the lippi to be a great improvement to the typical sleeping bag and it comes with a slip cover that lets you easily tote it around with you. Though, priced at £79.00 we aren’t sure if we’re ready to give up our sleeping bag to get arms and legs just yet. Those who MUST dance while roasting marshmallows don’t want to pass this up, however!
