iGo Stowaway Keyboard

IGo has created a great device that every author or minimalist should use – the Stowaway Keyboard.  When writing my first book, I picked up one of these for those times when you just don’t want to carry around a laptop, but the keys on your PDA are just too small.  I have to say, I’m quite pleased with the results.  It’s now 11 months after my purchase of the nifty little keyboard.

Simply unfold it from the wallet-size carrying case and you have a full-size keyboard with bluetooth capabilities.  An easy to install software set is compatible with most modern PDAs and cell phones.  I’ve personally used it with the Iphone, BlackJack II, and the MDA without a hitch.  What is even more impressive?  This keyboard runs on 2 AA batteries.  I know what you’re thinking, short battery life, right?  Not even close.  I sat out at the beach and wrote over 20,000 words for The Fire Within on my PDA.  Having bluetooth turned on definitely drained my cell phone, but the IGo keyboard prevailed.

11 months later, I’m still using the same 2 AA batteries on my initial install.  I really can’t believe it.  Almost too good to be true.  It seems IGo has seen more interest in their multifunctional power devices and have decided to discontinue the Stowaway Keyboard.  If you want portability with great functionality while writing on the road, then I suggest you get one before they sell out.  I really can’t find any complaints and continue to use it while writing reviews and new books whether on the bus, train, or relaxing on the beach.
